Bobcaygeon Public School has scheduled our Terry Fox Run to be held on Thursday October 8th. This year marks the 35th Annual Terry Fox Run. We always enjoy a rush of anticipation as another Terry Fox Run is planned for! The school’s Terry Fox student leadership committee is reigniting the flame again this year by getting students involved in what we believe to be an important human cause: raising money for Cancer Research. We continue to have the opportunity to support an international event that will serve as a reminder of how very lucky we all are.
For the 35th Annual Terry Fox Run, we are once again asking students to run in honour of someone in their lives who has been affected by cancer. Your child may want to run for a family member, friend, or neighbour who has battled or who is battling against cancer or simply run in memory of Terry Fox. Students will, once again, be given a dedication sticker which they will personalize with the name of the person they are running for. They will wear this badge throughout their run/walk as a symbol of hope that connects us all in a special way! Badge preparation will begin on the Wednesday before the Terry Fox run, so have your chosen name ready. Last year our school raised an INCREDIBLE $9 890.73 a grand total of $77 019.31 from our school alone!!! This year we have set our goal to reach $10 000.00! A Terry Fox pledge sheet will go home on Friday, September 18th with your child(ren). We ask that students NOT go door-to-door to collect pledges, but rather, ask family and friends for donations.
Please return ALL pledge sheets on or before Monday October 5th, 2015.
On the day of our Terry Fox Run students are encouraged to wear a Terry Fox shirt or a school colour shirt (yellow or purple) to help promote school community spirit! Students are also reminded to bring a water bottle, extra healthy snacks and a change of clothes in the event that we are running in the rain. Please note that the run will only be postponed in the event of a storm. All junior and intermediate students (who have raised a minimum of $5.00) will run on a “marshalled” route off school property while our primary students will count their laps around the perimeter of the schoolyard (Trillium Trek).
All parents and guardians interested in helping to supervise routes, assist with the water tables and/or count pledge money are to contact Mrs. Austin or the school office at (705-738-5105) or email firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject Terry Fox Volunteer. We depend greatly on our VOLUNTEERS to make each year’s event a success!!
We encourage B.P.S. family members to please join us at 11:45 p.m. on Wednesday September 30th if you would like to share in this day’s event! Walk or run with your child or ask to volunteer! Thank you for your continued support of Cancer Research.
