At Bobcaygeon Public School We Empower Leadership and Celebrate Greatness! We are a Leader in Me School!
Practice Habit 2 – – Begin with the end in mind – – this is the time to choose a New Year’s Resolution!
Here is our weekly update for January 4-8:
Merry Christmas to those community members who are celebrating Orthodox Christmas this week.
As you know, Ms. Kelly Swartman returned to our school just before Christmas and took over the leading and learning in the grade 7/8 classroom. She has now moved to the JK/SK classroom and Mr. Mitchell Tomlinson has returned to the grade 7/8 classroom where he had been teaching from September until the end of November. We are excited to have both these talented educational leaders in our community and thank them for their flexibility and professionalism.
We wish Ms. Picken-Lestin all the best as she awaits the arrival of her new baby this month.
This Thursday, Frank Teravich from Franklin Covey will be coming to the school to work with all Educational Staff to support our Leader in Me learning. This Implementation Day is the second formal day where we all will have the opportunity to work together to plan for the further implementation of the Leader in Me at Bobcaygeon PS. Frank is excited to come to Bobcaygeon to meet with our community. While the staff are working with Frank in the Library, occasional teaching staff (supply teachers) will be supporting students in the classroom. A visiting Administrator will provide support in the Office. It would be appreciated if you would speak to your child(ren) about the need for them to demonstrate great leadership on this day by being respectful and responsible members of our learning community. This is an important day in our continued work through the Leader in Me process which will impact our entire community in such a positive way.
Kindergarten Registration is now open for students who are or will be 4 years old by the end of 2016 (born 2012). This is also the time that any students whose family chose not to have them attend JK should register for SK. This is very important as staffing is assigned to schools in March based on our Kindergarten registration numbers. The past two years, the school has been asked to reorganize in the Fall (mid-September) due to inaccurate projections and late registrations. We would greatly appreciate our community’s help in having all eligible students register by the end of January 2016. Registration forms can be completed at the school or taken home and completed there and returned to the Office. Our Office is open from 8:30 am-4 pm Mon-Fri. If you have a student in the school and would like to have us send the forms home with your child, please phone the school or email email@example.com with subject: Kindergarten Registration.
We thank you for your continued vigilance in ensuring that our front parking lot is a safe place for our students at the beginning and the end of each day. PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN THE FRONT PARKING LOT BETWEEN 8:30-9:00am OR 3:10-3:45pm. We understand that it may seem more convenient for you in the colder weather, however it creates a safety issue with cars moving about at drop off and pick-up time trying to squeeze around each other and between snow banks. Please use the upper parking lot to park your car and walk down to meet your child at the assigned spot.
Our make up swimming session at the Forbert Pool is January 14th. Participants are reminded to bring their bathing suit and towel.
Mark your calendars! On January 22nd there will be an opportunity for an ALL YOU CAN EAT SOUP LUNCH to be purchased by families. Our community is welcome to join us! The lunch will be open from 11am-1pm for friends, parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles or neighbours to have a yummy, healthy and filling lunch for just $4. Participants are encouraged to bring their own reusable bowl. Order forms will be sent home in the near future. Community members are asked to RSVP to help in the food preparation although no one will be turned away who decides to join us for lunch. :0)
Primary Basket Raffle – – Thank you to all who contributed to the Primary Divisions Holiday Basket Raffle. Total funds raised was just over $1200.00. This will help support the purchase of technology for use in our Primary classes.
On Thursday a team of our Primary students will be competing in the Primary Zone Basketball Tournament at Archie Stouffer Elementary School. On Tuesday, January 12th, our Intermediate Teams will be competing at Langton Public School and at Archie Stouffer Elementary school in the Intermediate Zone Basketball Tournaments. We wish them the best of luck in their endeavors!
Next week, our grade 6/7 classroom will be heading to Yearley Outdoor Education Centre to enjoy an overnight learning adventure with the terrific staff of TLDSB and our volunteer parents. Each year, all grade 6 students are given the opportunity to travel to Yearley Outdoor Centre and we thank the TLDSB for supporting this enrichment program.
Please note the Walking School bus will not walk this Thursday.
Community Service Opportunities
The Diabetes Society as provided a clothing drop bin at the North End of the main parking lot for community members to drop their clothing items that are no longer needed in their homes.
A reminder that we collect ValuMart and Foodland receipts for projects at the school. This is an ongoing fundraising program that is supported by a group of our retired teachers. We are very appreciative of the time that they spend tallying up the receipt totals and completing the required paperwork.
A reminder that we collect pop tabs on behalf of the Bobcaygeon Lions Club. The drop box is located just outside of the Main Office door.
