Bob’s Friday Update – Oct. 14, 2022

Hello Laker Families,

We live in such a generous community.  You supported our Terry Fox Run and Book Fair with enthusiasm! From the Book Fair, we made over $4500 that will allow us to buy books and resources for our library and classrooms. You donated over $6000 to the Terry Fox Foundation to support cancer research.  Thank you for your support of these fundraisers!

A big Thank you! To Ms. Ganz for leading our Cross-Country Team.  They had a spectacular day running with enthusiasm and demonstrating incredible sportsmanship. They represented our community to the highest degree!

Our soccer teams are busy practicing for games and their tournament at the end of the month. Thank you to Mr. Coulter and Ms. Gallagher for coaching our soccer teams.

We have been noticing that some students are being dropped off well before supervision is available.  Students are not to be on school property unsupervised.  Supervision begins at 9:05 a.m. Please do not leave students on school property unsupervised.

We have been learning about bus safety in our classrooms.  A couple of things I would like to bring to your attention:

  • Please discourage your child form walking in between the buses unless it is on the designated yellow pedestrian path. Students walking between buses that are close together cannot be seen by the driver and there is the chance of the student being hit by the bus.
  • Some students back pack straps are so long they can be caught in the door of the bus when the door closes. This may lead to a student being dragged along with the bus when it starts moving. The straps are also a tripping hazard as students go up and down the school bus stairs so please cut the straps so they do not dangle.

You can get more information on bus safety at https://www.ontario.ca/page/school-bus-safety.
