Bob’s Friday Update: September 9, 2022

Hello Laker Families!

What a week!  We are so thrilled to see our school community growing and want to welcome all of our new students and families.  Bobcaygeon is an amazing community to live in! A big thank you to our students and families for your patience and flexibility as we increase the number of classes.  While it is a difficult process, having smaller class sizes for the rest of the year makes it all worthwhile.

We want to remind you that we have a 2022-2023 TLDSB Handbook for Parents/Guardians and Students which can be found at tldsb.ca on the parent resources page. This handbook will help students and their families with their journey through school. As part of our commitment to high levels of student achievement you will find important information about safe and accepting schools, emergency response, consequences for behaviour, privacy and information management, community information, and more. Please call if you have any questions or comments on the information in the handbook.

We will be firing up our School Council soon. This is such a great opportunity to come together and make a difference in the lives of our students and community. We are hoping to have our first meeting as the 2021-2022 School Council during the first week of October. Please click this link to access the School Council Self-Nomination Form and send it to the school before September 23rd at 4 p.m. If you do not have access to a printer or scanner, please feel free to send an email to [email protected] with all of the information on the form.

Our school Terry Fox run will be held September 23rd this year in the middle block.  Online pledges can be made at https://schools.terryfox.ca/BobcaygeonPS  We are also selling T-shirts to raise more funds for cancer research.  Your child’s teacher will send home the information. Thank you to Ms. Swartman for organizing this event.

Please join us on September 22nd from 5 – 6 for a drop in Open House where you will be able to meet your child’s teacher and see the school.

Label your child’s belongings so when things go missing we know who to return them to.  20% of all purchases (excluding gift cards) support our school projects. Check 0ut www.oliverslabels.com/bps Thank you to our School Council for running this fundraiser!

Safe Arrival: Please call the school (or send a note in advance) when you know your child will be absent or late to school. The school will call home (and other emergency contacts) of those students we have not heard from. Your note or phone call saves our secretary from having to make unnecessary safe arrival calls.

Early pick-ups: Please call the office once you are in the parking lot and we will send your student to the exit to meet you.

Late drop offs: Please call the office when you arrive and we will meet your child at the main office door. Please don’t go to any other door as we need to take your child’s attendance.

Buses: School Board policy allows students to travel one bus route only to and from school. Please do not make a request for a change to a different bus to accommodate such things such as appointments, visiting friends, etc.

Bus drivers are not authorized to make changes in pick up or drop off locations. This must be done through the Board transportation department.

It is the students’ responsibility to ensure that their behaviour does not distract the driver and create unsafe driving conditions. Students will lose the privilege of riding the bus if they are unable to abide by the rules.
