Bobcaygeon Public School 2024-2025
As part of our commitment to creating a safe and supportive learning environment, we want to discuss an important issue that affects many students: bullying.
What is Bullying?
Bullying is repeated behaviour that takes many forms, including physical, verbal, and social. It often invokes an imbalance of power. It can be carried out by one person or a group of people.
Bullying is unacceptable in all its forms. Schools must promote and support a positive school climate where all members of the school community feel safe, included, accepted, and engage in positive behaviours and interactions.

Signs of Bullying
It’s important for parents to be aware of the signs that may indicate a child is being bullied or is bullying others. Look for changes such as:
- Unexplained injuries or lost belongings
- Changes in mood, such a increased anxiety or sadness
- Withdrawal from friends or activities
- Decline in academic performance
How we are addressing bullying
At Bobcaygeon, we are dedicated to fostering a positive environment through:
- Education: We explicitly teach social-emotional learning using Be Good People or TRAILS. These lessons teach students about problem-solving, empathy, showing sensitivity to others, conflict resolution, and how to stand up against bullying.
- Support: Our staff are trained to recognize and respond to bullying incidents promptly and effectively
- Reporting: We encourage students to report bullying behaviour to trusted adults. Anonymous reporting systems are also available (Safe@School Button on Website)

How Parents/Guardians Can Help
Here are some ways you can support your child and combat bullying:
- Open Communication: Talk to your child about their day and encourage them to share any concerns.
- Teach Empathy: help your child understand the impact of their words and actions on others.
- Monitor Online Activity: Be aware of your child’s online interactions and educate them about cyber bullying.
- Encourage Friendships: promote healthy friendships and encourage your child to stand up for others.
- Teach Integrity: Encourage collaboration with peers and help your child to learn the importance of honesty, especially in various environments (bus, classroom, yard, community, etc) and in the absence of their family.
