Lakers Walk for Water

Our Grade 7/8 Lakers have been studying the importance of water and it’s role in our community and the world at large. Inspired by a recent 100km walk around Rice Lake, our students elected to do their own ceremonial walk for water to honour one of our most important and beautiful local features, something many of us see every day and take for granted.

The walk started at Henderson Park and continued to the beach alongside Dorothy Taylor, an indigenous leader from Curve Lake reserve, Rodney Smith-Merkley, and a number of community members, including some from our local Truth and Reconciliation Committee. The group stopped a number of times on the way to show respect and pay homage to our local bodies of water as they walked together in the rain.
